Past AIMS Presidents Invite Health Care Workers to Join AIMS

An Invitation to Join AIMS

G. Gorden Hadley, MD

It is such a privilege to be part of this great movement we know as AIMS. We have been told so many times of the importance of the medical work as the "right arm." And now the opportunities are increasing logarithmically throughout this world. We are in a real sense one big family, and this is particularly true in the health professional fields. We need to continue helping and striving to understand each other better. This is why AIMS was started and we can succeed in proportion to our united effort. We need all health professionals to join the group which gives us a broader base on which to work. The General Conference and the Alumni Association give us much of the infrastructure with which to work. Certainly, then, this is one place where your dues and contributions will have maximum impact. Please help us in our efforts to enroll every available colleague as a member of AIMS.

G. Gordon Hadley, MD
, in addition to being a past president of AIMS, has been medical director of Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital in Hangzbou, China.

ATTENTION DENTISTS!

James Crawford, DDS, MPH

An unusual opportunity is ours. 1 we frequently talk about the need to keep focused on the important, rather than the urgent. We have dedicated our lives to the mission of service to mankind around the world, and we keep in touch with a few of the individuals and projects in various parts of the world that catch our interest. This is to be commended! There are, however, events taking place in the medical/ dental world, in relation to our mission, that many of us miss. The AIMS Journal is designed to keep us abreast of what is happening and what needs to happen in order to adequately fulfill our mission. Dentistry has recently been included in a very direct and meaningful way. The most recent issue of AIMS was devoted entirely to dental missions, and future issues will contain news and information about dentistry around the world. So, let me encourage you to take AIM, become a dues paid member. By doing so, you will not only receive the AIMS Journal, but more significantly, you will be able to more fully focus on our mission of service through contact with fellow mission-oriented health professionals.

James Crawford DDS, MPH
, a past president of the AIMS, is Associate Director for Dental Affairs for the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventist and Associate Dean of Educational Services for the Loma Linda University School of Dentistry

Why Join AIMS?

by William Wagner, MD

As you have come to know some thing about AIMS, you may still be questioning, "Why should I join AIMS? Of what benefit is it to me or our group of health professionals?"

AIMS is a fellowship of health professionals who desire to follow in the footsteps of Jesus in a healing ministry. We seek to enlarge and strengthen the kingdom of God's grace on earth. We hold to that "blessed hope" that some day soon grace will be joined with glory as our Savior returns to take us home.

Fellowship brings spiritual camaraderie _ something we all need. Many of us work in large medical centers where such fellowship is readily available; many other health professionals around the world, however, don't have the luxury of fellowship with those of like faith and hope. AIMS seeks to provide a sense of belonging to an organization larger than any one of us _ or even gathering of a number of us in any one location _ a fellowship of health professionals united in common goals and objectives centered in Christ Jesus.

Once this fellowship is formed, you then have an organization that can used in as many ways and for as many purposes as you may desire. Your ingenuity, under the direction of the Spirit of the Lord, creates unlimited possibilities of service. AIMS seeks to provide the inspiration for chapters around the world to do big things for God through reporting activities of local chapters in the AIMS Journal.

As local chapters accomplish worthwhile projects to help themselves (through continuing education classes) or to help others through medical outreach, this can bring inspiration to other local chapters who, in turn, can inspire still others. AIMS was organized and now functions to be a communicator of ideas and a facilitator of plans. To become affiliated with AIMS is to become a part of an effort to unite health workers worldwide in the fulfillment of the command of Jesus when He said, "Go ye into all the world...." There is preaching and there is healing, our part is first healing, and if given the talent, also to preach.

When your local chapter has a project, we'd like to promote it in the AIMS Journal. When your local chapter has accomplished some outstanding service, we'd like to have photos and a story to share with our world readership.

AIMS also provides a conduit through which contributions can be sent to any organization around the world. Many alumni find this a convenient means to support a personal favorite project. AIMS also sends medical equipment and supplies to various medical facilities worldwide. We're here to help you in many different ways.

Your AIMS membership simply says that you want to be a part of this worldwide medical fellowship. AIMS is dedicated to the principles and purposes of the Seventh-day Adventist church. We respect its organization and leadership. We stand as servants to our Savior, Jesus Christ, our church, and to our fellow man.

William Wagner, MD, has served as a missionary physician for thc largest part of his professional career. A surgeon, Wagner retired in 1993, and makes his home in Loma Linda, California. He is a past president of AIMS.
